6 Preparing the operating section
Preparing (or tooling) means to prepare the machine for a given machining operation. This chapter
contains the preparation operations of the working units and their implementation procedures.
For a description of the buttons or selectors mentioned in this chapter, please refer to chapter 5
“Commands and indicator devices”.
6.1 Cutting unit
The cutting unit is prepared on the basis of the degree of finish you want to obtain during the
machining operation. To do this, it is necessary to replace the orifice and focusing nozzle,
choosing suitable water passage diameters.
To replace the focusing nozzle and orifice, refer to chapter 11.
It is a good idea to regularly check the water jet from the focusing nozzle; if it tends to open out,
this means it needs replacing.
6.2 Machining parameters
Primus is supplied with the ICAM software package. The CAM part of this package contains a
database that can suggest the main technological parameters on the basis of the material and the
thickness worked, to obtain good machining results.
