9. Dry Bob, Cup and Luer syringe-connector with soft cloth, flush the connector and the tube
connecting to the bottom of the Bob with air from the big syringe to make it dry.
7.8.2. Preparing a blood sample Oxygenscan
Use the dedicated Lorrca reagents (see Appendix - Parts list (on page 191))
Sample preparation:
1. Measure RBC level CBC on a Cell Counter (RBC in 10
6
/µL or RBC in 10
12
/L).
2. Oxygenscan whole blood volume calculation: 250/RBC = xx µL blood in 5 mL Oxy ISO (this
should result in a value between 50 and 250 µL depending on the level of anaemia)
3. Gently mix the sample 10 to 15 times in the primary tube.
4. Gently pipet calculated standardized sample volume into the Oxy ISO
5. Gently mix the Oxy ISO vial 40x, use the blood/Oxy ISO solution within 30 minutes. (Oxy ISO is
not a storage medium)
6. Slowly draw 2,0 mL of the blood/Oxy ISO solution in a 3 mL syringe
A blood sample can be stored at room temperature during a limited time. After that the sample cannot be
used anymore.
7.8.3. Place sample Oxygenscan test
1. Remove big air bubble(s) from the syringe,
2. Connect the syringe to the Luer-connector and inject the blood/Oxy ISO solution slowly and
continuously via syringe into the Bob through the Luer-connector, inject till above the “black
ring” on the Bob and near the level of the suction port in the Bob
Overview of syringe on the Luer-connector, ready to inject the blood/Oxy ISO solution into the
cup. The blue arrow indicates the level that needs to be surpassed by the injected solution
