ENGINE EXHAUST
INSPECTION / TEST
1. Primary Exhaust Nozzle Assembly
A. Primary Exhaust Nozzle Assembly
(Inconel) Inspection
NOTE: If you think a part is unserviceable,
speak to MDHI Field Service Department
for more instructions.
(1). Visually inspect primary exhaust nozzle
internally and externally for cracks
without removing clamp.
(a). Cracks that are less than 3.0 inches
(76.2 mm) in length may be re
paired (Ref. Section 78-00-00).
Replace primary exhaust nozzle if
cracks exceed this length.
(b). Intersecting cracks that meet in an
acute angle (less than 90 degrees) are
not repairable. Replace primary
exhaust nozzle.
(c). Cracks within one inch (25.4mm) of
mating flange or doubler straps are
not repairable. Replace primary
exhaust nozzle.
(2). Inspect along seam welds. If cracks are
found, replace exhaust nozzle.
(3). Visually inspect primary exhaust nozzle
for dents and deformities. Repair as
required (Ref. Section 78-00-00).
(4). Visually inspect exhaust nozzle V-band
for cracks, spreading and security of
attachment. No damage allowed.
B. Primary Exhaust Nozzle Assembly
(Stainless Steel) Special Inspection
NOTE: If you think a part is unserviceable,
speak to MDHI Field Service Department
for more instructions.
(1). Remove primary exhaust nozzle (Ref.
Section 78-00-00).
(2). Visually inspect primary exhaust nozzle
for cracks.
(a). Cracks that are less than 3.0 inches
(76.2 mm) in length may be re
paired (Ref. Section 78-00-00).
Replace primary exhaust nozzle if
cracks exceed this length.
(b). Intersecting cracks that meet in an

not repairable. Replace primary
exhaust nozzle.
(c). Cracks within one inch (25.4mm) of
mating flange or doubler straps are
not repairable. Replace primary
exhaust nozzle.
(3). Inspect along seam welds. If cracks are

(4). Visually inspect primary exhaust nozzle
for dents and deformities. Repair as
required (Ref. Section 78-00-00).
(5). Visually inspect primary exhaust nozzle
flange indexing dowel. Repair dowel
(Ref. Section 78-00-00) if broken or
damaged.
(6). Visually inspect exhaust nozzle V-band
for cracks, spreading and security of
attachment. No damage allowed.
(7). Install primary exhaust nozzle (Ref.
Section 78-00-00).
C. Primary Exhaust Nozzle Assembly
Repair Inspection
(1). Fluorescent penetrant inspect repairs
for cracks.
(2). Weld and inspect cracks as required.
