handledwithcarecanbehazardoustobothpersonalhealth
andtheenvironment.
Warning:Manyliquidsandothersubstancesusedin
vehiclesarepoisonousandshouldundernocircumstances
beconsumedandshould,asfaraspossible,bekept
fromcontactwiththeskin.Theseliquidsandsubstances
includeacid,antifreeze,brakeuid,fuel,windscreen
washeradditives,lubricants,refrigerantsandvarious
adhesives.
Warning:Alwaysreadcarefullytheinstructionsprinted
onlabelsorstampedoncomponentsandobeythem
implicitly.Suchinstructionsareincludedforreasonsof
yourhealthandpersonalsafety.Neverdisregardthem.
SyntheticRubber
ManyO-rings,seals,hoses,exiblepipesandothersimilar
itemswhichappeartobenaturalrubber,areinfact,made
ofsyntheticmaterialscalledFluoroelastomers.Undernormal
operatingconditionsthismaterialissafeanddoesnotpresent
ahealthhazard.However,ifthematerialisdamagedbyre
orexcessiveheating,itcanbreakdownandproducehighly
corrosiveHydrouoricacid.
ContactwithHydrouoricacidcancauseseriousburnson
contactwithskin.Ifskincontactdoesoccur
•Removeanycontaminatedclothingimmediately.
•Irrigateaffectedareaofskinwithacopiousamountof
coldwaterorlimewaterfor15to60minutes.
•Obtainmedicalassistanceimmediately.
Shouldanymaterialbeinaburntoroverheatedcondition,
handlewithextremecautionandwearprotectiveclothing
(seamlessindustrialgloves,protectiveapronetc.).
Decontaminateanddisposeofglovesimmediatelyafteruse.
LubricatingOils
Avoidexcessiveskincontactwithusedlubricatingoilsand
alwaysadheretothehealthprotectionprecautions.
Warning:Avoidexcessiveskincontactwithusedengine
oil.Usedengineoilcontainspotentiallyharmful
contaminantswhichmaycauseskincancerorother
seriousskindisorders.
Warning:Avoidexcessiveskincontactwithmineraloil.
Mineraloilsremovethenaturalfatsfromtheskin,leading
todryness,irritationanddermatitis.
HealthProtectionPrecautions
Thefollowingprecautionsshouldbeobservedatalltimes.
•Wearprotectiveclothing,includingimperviousgloves
wherepracticable.
•Avoidprolongedandrepeatedcontactwithoils,
particularlyusedengineoils.
•Donotputoilyragsinpockets.
•Avoidcontaminatingclothes(particularlythosenextto
theskin)withoil.
•Overallsmustbecleanedregularly.Discardheavilysoiled
clothingandoilimpregnatedfootwear.
•Firstaidtreatmentshouldbeobtainedimmediatelyfor
opencutsandwounds.
•Applybarriercreamsbeforeeachworkperiodtohelp
preventlubricatingoilfromcontaminatingtheskin.
•Washwithsoapandwatertoensurealloilisremoved
(proprietaryskincleansersandnailbrusheswillhelp).
•Usemoisturisersaftercleaning;preparationscontaining
lanolinhelpreplacetheskin'snaturaloilswhichhavebeen
removed.
•Donotusepetrol/gasoline,kerosene,dieselfuel,oil,
thinnersorsolventsforcleaningskin.
•Wherepracticable,degreasecomponentspriorto
handling.
•Ifskindisordersdevelop,obtainmedicaladvicewithout
delay.
•Weareyeprotection(e.g.gogglesorfaceshield)ifthere
isariskofeyecontamination.Eyewashfacilitiesshould
beprovidedinclosevicinitytotheworkarea.
