BatteryDisconnection
Beforedisconnectingthebattery,disablethealarmsystemand
switchoffallelectricalequipment.
Caution:T opreventdamagetoelectricalcomponents,
alwaysdisconnectthebatterywhenworkingonthe
vehicle'selectricalsystem.Thegroundleadmustbe
disconnectedrstandreconnectedlast.
Caution:Alwaysensurethatbatteryleadsarerouted
correctlyandarenotclosetoanypotentialchang
points.
BatteryCharging
Alwaysensureanybatterychargingareaiswellventilatedand
thateveryprecautionistakentoavoidnakedamesandsparks.
Disciplines
Removethehandsetpriortomakinganyconnectionor
disconnectioninthesystemtopreventelectricalsurges
causedbydisconnecting‘live'connectionsdamagingelectronic
components.
Ensurehandsandworksurfacesarecleanandfreeofgrease,
swarf,etc.Greasecollectsdirtwhichcancauseelectrical
tracking(shortcircuits)orhighresistancecontacts.
Whenhandlingprintedcircuitboards,treatwithcareandhold
bytheedgesonly;notethatsomeelectroniccomponentsare
susceptibletobodystatic.
Connectorsshouldneverbesubjectedtoforcedremovalor
ret,especiallyinter-boardconnectors.Damagedcontactscan
causeshort-circuitandopen-circuitfaultconditions.
Priortocommencingtest,andperiodicallyduringatest,touch
agoodvehiclebodyearthtodischargestaticcharge.Some
electroniccomponentsarevulnerabletothestaticelectricity
thatmaybegeneratedbytheoperator.
ElectricalMultiplugsLubricate
Inordertopreventcorrosion,Somemultiplugsunderbonnet
andcarpetiswipedspeciallubricateinfactory.Iftheseis
destroyedinmaintaining,repairandreplacingprocess,special
lubricateshouldbenewlywiped

GeneralPrecautions
TheSRSsystemcontainscomponentswhichcouldbe
potentiallyhazardoustotheserviceengineerifnotserviced
andhandledcorrectly.Thefollowingguidelinesareintended
toalerttheserviceengineertopotentialsourcesofdanger
andemphasisetheimportanceofensuringtheintegrityof
SRS
componentsttedtothevehicle.
Warning:Alwaysfollowthe'SRSPrecautions'andthe
correctproceduresforworkingonSRScomponents.
PersonsworkingonSRSsystemsmustbefullytrainedand
havebeenissuedwithcopiesoftheSafetyguidelines.
Warning:Itisimperativethatbeforeanywork
isundertakenontheSRSsystemtheappropriate
informationisreadthoroughly.
Warning:Theairbagmodulecontainssodiumazidewhich
ispoisonousandextremelyammable.Contactwith
water,acidorheavymetalsmayproduceharmfulor
explosivecompounds.Donotdismantle,incinerateor
bringintocontactwithelectricity,beforetheunithas
beendeployed.
Warning:Alwaysreplaceaseatbeltassemblythathas
withstoodthestrainofaseverevehicleimpact,orifthe
webbingshowssignsoffraying.
Warning:Alwaysdisconnectthevehiclebatterybefore
carryingoutanyelectricweldingonavehiclettedwith
anSRSsystem.
Caution:Donotexposeanairbagmoduleorseatbelt
pre-tensionertoheatexceeding85°C.
Itshouldbenotedthattheseprecautionsarenotrestricted
tooperationsperformedwhenservicingtheSRSsystem,
thesamecaremustbeexercisedwhenworkingonancillary
systemsandcomponentslocatedinthevicinityoftheSRS
components;theseinclude,butarenotlimitedto:
Steeringsystemsteeringwheelairbag,rotarycoupler.
Frontfasciapassengerfrontairbag.
Interiortrim
ICSHeadCurtainAirbags(‘A'-posttrim,
‘B'-postuppertrim,grabhandles,headliningabovefront
doors;SRSElectronicControlUnit(ECU)(beneath
centreconsole);sideimpactcrashsensors(undercarpet
beneathfrontseats)
Seatsside(thorax)airbags.
ElectricalsystemSRSharnesses,linkleadsand
connectors.
