Liquidrefrigerantowsthroughthemeteringvalveinto
theevaporator.Therestrictionacrossthemeteringvalve
reducesthepressureandtemperatureoftherefrigerant.The
restrictionalsochangesthestreamofrefrigerantintoane
spray,toimprovetheevaporationprocess.Astherefrigerant
passesthroughtheevaporator,itabsorbsheatfromthe
airowingthroughtheevaporatormatrix.Theincreasein
temperaturecausestherefrigeranttovaporizeandincrease
inpressure.
Thetemperatureandpressureoftherefrigerantleavingthe
evaporatoractonthediaphragmandtemperaturesensitive
tube,whichmovetoregulatethemeteringvalveopening
andsocontrolthevolumeofrefrigerantowingthrough
theevaporator.Thewarmertheairowingthroughthe
evaporatormatrix,themoreheatavailabletoevaporate
refrigerantandthusthegreaterthevolumeofrefrigerant
allowedthroughthemeteringvalve.
Evaporator
Theevaporatorisinstalledintheairinletoftheheater
assemblyandabsorbsheatfromtheexteriororrecirculated
inletair.Lowpressure,lowtemperaturerefrigerantchanges
fromliquidtovapourintheevaporator,absorbinglarge
quantitiesofheatasitchangesstate.
RefrigerantLines
Aluminiumrefrigerantlinesconnectthesystemcomponents
togetherwithO-ringsttedbetweentheconnectionsto
ensureasecureseal.T omaintainsimilarowvelocities
aroundthesystem,thediameteroftherefrigerantlines
variestosuitthetwopressure/temperatureregimes.The
largerdiametersareinstalledinthelowpressure/temperature
regimeandthesmallerdiametersareinstalledinthehigh
pressure/temperatureregimewithchargingconnections
incorporatedintotherefrigerantlinesforsystemservicing.
