FlexiblePipesandHoses
General
Whenremovingandinstallingexiblehydraulicpipesand
hoses,ensurethatthefollowingpracticesareobservedto
ensurecomponentserviceability.
Cleanendttingsandtheareasurroundingthemas
thoroughlyaspossible.
Obtainappropriateplugsorcapsbeforedetachinghose
endttings,sothattheportscanbeimmediatelycovered
topreventtheingressofdirt.
Cleanhoseexternallyandblowthroughwithairline.
Examinecarefullyforcracks,separationofplies,security
ofendttingsandexternaldamage.Rejectanyfaulty
hoses.
Whenrettingahose,ensurethatnounnecessarybends
areintroduced,andthathoseisnottwistedbeforeor
duringtighteningofunionnuts.
Fitacaptosealahydraulicunionandaplugtoitssocket
afterremovaltopreventingressofdirt.
Absolutecleanlinessmustbeobservedwithhydraulic
componentsatalltimes.
Afteranyworkonhydraulicsystems,carefullyinspect
forleaksunderneaththevehiclewhileasecondoperator
appliesmaximumbrakepressuretothebrakes(engine
running)andoperatesthesteering.
FuelSystemHoses
Allfuelhosesaremadeupoftwolaminations,anarmoured
rubberoutersleeveandaninnervitoncore.Ifanyofthefuel
systemhoseshavebeendisconnected,itisimperativethatthe
internalboreisinspectedtoensurethatthevitonlininghas
notbecomeseparatedfromthearmouredoutersleeve.A
newhosemustbettedifseparationisevident.
CoolingSystemHoses
ThefollowingprecautionsMUSTbefollowedtoensurethat
integrityofcoolinghosesandtheirconnectionstosystem
componentsaremaintained.
HoseOrientationandConnection
Correctorientationofcoolinghosesisimportantinensuring
thatthehosedoesnotbecomefatiguedordamagedthrough
contactwithadjacentcomponents.Where'timing'marks(1)
areprovidedonthehoseandcorrespondingconnection,these
mustbeusedtoensurecorrectorientation.Hosesmustbe
pushedfullyontotheirconnectionpoints.Usually,amoulded
form(2)onthestubpipeprovidesapositiveindicator.
HoseClip
Markings(1)areusuallyprovidedonthehosetoindicatethe
correctclipposition.Ifnomarkingsareprovided,positionthe
clipdirectlybehindtheretaininglipattheendofthestubas
shown.Wormdriveclipsshouldbeorientedwiththecrimped
sideofthedrivehousing(2)facingtowardstheendofthehose,
orthehosemaybecomepinchedbetweentheclipandthestub
piperetaininglip.Wormdriveclipsshouldbetightenedto3
Nmunlessotherwisestated.Ensurethathoseclipsdonotfoul
adjacentcomponents.
HeatProtection
Alwaysensurethatheatshieldsandprotectivesheathingare
ingoodcondition.Replaceifdamageisevident.Particular
caremustbetakenwhenroutinghosesclosetohotengine
components,suchastheexhaustmanifoldandtheExhaustGas
Recirculation(EGR)pipe.Hoseswillrelaxanddeectslightly
