Description
General
ThewipersandwasherssystemiscontrolledbytheBody
ControlModule(BCM)onreceiptofrequestsmadebythe
driverortherainsensorunit(iftted).Allwiperfunctions
areoperatedfromamultifunctionwash/wipeleverswitch
assemblylocatedontherighthandsideofthesteeringcolumn.
Thewipersandwasherssystemcomprises:
•Awipermotor
•Awiperlinkage
•T wowiperarmsandblades
•T wowasherjets
•Awasherreservoirandpump
•Awipercolumnswitch
Arainsensor,whichautomaticallycontrolstheintermittent
functionisttedtosomemodels.Therainsensorhousingalso
containsalightsensor,whichoperatestheautomaticlighting
function.
Arainsensor,whichautomaticallycontrolstheintermittent
functionisttedtosomemodels.Therainsensorhousingalso
containsalightsensor,whichoperatestheautomaticlighting
function.
Diagnosticinformationonsomeaspectsofthewipe/wash
systemcanberetrievedusingT5.
WiperColumnSwitch
Thewipercolumnswitchcomprisesave-shiftleverswitch
andarotaryswitch.Thepositionofintermittentwipe,slow
speedwipe,fastspeedwipeswitchesand'off'arelocked,and
ickwipeandprogrammedwash\wipeswitchesarenotlocked.
Therotaryswitchisusedtoselectintermittentraindelaytime
oradjustthesensitivityofrainsensor(iftted).
WiperFunctions
Thewipersystemsupportsthefollowingfunctionality:
•Programmedwash/wipe
•Flickwipe
•Slowspeedwiper
•Fastspeedwiper
•Intermittentwipe(withspeeddependentdelay
adjustmentorwipeoperationwithsensitivityofrain
sensor(iftted)adjustment.)
ProgrammedWash/Wipe
Pulltheleverswitchtowardsthesteeringwheel,thewasher
operatesimmediately.Afterabriefinterval,thewiperwill
operatetogetherwiththewasher.Aftertheleverisreleased,
thewiperwillcontinuetooperateandwipethreetimes.After
afewseconds,thewiperswillwipeoncemoretoremove
excesswasheruidonthewindscreen.
FlickWipe
Pressthewipercolumnswitchdownandquicklyrelease,
thewiperwillcompleteaslowspeedwipeoperation.Ifthe
switchremainspressed,thewipersoperateatthefastwipe
speed.Whentheswitchisreleasedthewiperwillcompletea
slowspeedwipeoperationuntilthemotorreachesthepark
position.
SlowSpeedWipe
Whentheslowspeedpositionoftheswitchisselected,the
wiperswilloperatecontinuouslyatslowspeed.
FastSpeedWipe
Whentheswitchisoperatedtothelatchedfastspeedposition,
thewiperswilloperatecontinuouslyatfastspeed.
IntermittentWipe
TheintermittentwipefunctioniscontrolledbytheBCM.
Whentheswitchisoperatedtotheintermittentposition,
theBCMinitiatessingle,slowspeedwipes.Inbetweenthe
wipesthebladesremainintheparkpositionuntiltheselected
delayperiodisover.Thelengthofdelayisselectedusing
thefourpositionrotaryswitchontheendofthewiper
lever.Ifaprogrammedwash/wipefunctionisrequestedwhen
intermittentisselected,theprogrammedwash/wipecyclewill
occurandtheintermittentfunctionwillthenresumewhenthe
motorreachestheparkpositionattheendofthewash/wipe
cycle.
IntermittentWipewithRainSensor
Theintermittentwipefunctionwitharainsensorttedis
controlledbytheBCMandtherainsensorunit.Whenthe
switchisoperatedtotheintermittentposition,theBCMwill
initiateonecompletewipecycletocalibratetherainsensor.
Therainsensorcontinuallymonitorstherainfallorscreen
wetnessovertheopticalareaofthesensorandoperatesthe
wipersintermittentlyorcontinuouslyasappropriate.Thelight
sensorisaphotoelectriccell,whichincreasesthesensitivityof
therainsensorinpoorconditionsornightdrivingtoensure
thatthescreenremainsclear.Aheatingelementensuresthat
theopticalelementstaysclearoficeandcondensation.The
heatingelementiscontrolledbythesensorwhichreceives
ambienttemperaturemessagesfromtheBCMontheLINBus.
Whentherainsensoristted,normalspeeddependantand
periodadjustmentintermittentoperationisdisabledandthe
rainsensorassumesfullcontroloftheintermittentwiper
function.
SpeedDependentWipe
Inintermittent,sloworfastpositionstheBCMwilladjustthe
wipefunctiontocompensatefordifferentvehiclespeeds.It
