Description
SelectorLever
Theselectorleverassemblyconsistsofaleverandacover
attachedtoabase.Theselectorleverbaseislocatedona
gasketandsecuredtothetransmissiontunnelby4bolts.A
latchintheleverengageswithdetentsinthebase.
Theselectorleverpositionsoperateasfollows:
•P:preventsthevehiclefrommovingbylockingthe
transmission
•R:selectonlywhenvehicleisstationaryandtheengine
isatidle
•N:notorquetransmittedtotheroadwheels
•D:thispositionutilisesallveforwardgears.Itisthe
defaultpositionselectedforconventionaldriving
•W:thispositioncausestheTCMtoadoptaWintermode
andisusedforstarting-offonslipperyroadsurfaces
•S:Sportsmode
•+/-Tiptronic
TiptronicGearChanges
Iftheselectorleverismovedfromthe'D'positiontotheright,
thesystemwillautomaticallybegintooperateinaSportmode
withdifferentgearshiftparameters.TheTiptronicmodeis
separatefromSportmodeandwillgivefull,manualcontrolof
gearshiftsbysequentiallymovingtheselectorlever.Movement
oftheselectorleverintheforward(+)directionchangesthe
transmissionuptheratiosandmovementinarearward(-)
directionchangesthetransmissiondowntheratios.Some
modelshaveadditionalcontrolsonthesteeringwheel.Once
TiptronichasbeenselectedSportmodecannotbeaccessed
untilthegearselectorhasbeenreturnedtotheDposition.

Thetransmissionincorporatesaninterlocksolenoidatthe
bottomoftheselectorlever.ThisiscontrolledbytheTCM.
Whenthegearselectorisin'P'andthesolenoidisnot
energisedaspringloadedhookengageswithacorresponding
hookatthebottomoftheselectorlever,preventingaccidental
movementofthegearselector.Thesolenoidisonlyenergised
whenthehandsetisdocked,theselectorleverisin'P',and
thefootbrakeisapplied.
Energisingthesolenoidpushesthesolenoidpushrodtowards
therearofthecar.Thisrotatestheinterlockhookaroundits
pivot,againstspringpressure,andallowsthegearselectorto
bemovedfromthe'P'position.
SelectorCable
TheselectorcableisaBowdentypecablethatconnectsthe
selectorlevertoaninputleveronthetransmission.A'C'clip
securestheoutercabletotheselectorleverassembly;the
transmissionendoftheoutercableissecuredtoabracket
onthetransmissionbyanintegralclip.Theinnercableis
adjustableattheconnectionwiththetransmissioninputlever.
