PDCECUreceivesastatusoftheignition,reverseswitch
positionviatheBCMBusconnectiontotheLINWith
theignitionon,thePDCentersaselfcheckmode.After
performingtheselfcheck,thesystementersitsstandbymode
duringwhichthesystemislivebutcannotdetectobstructions.
WhenthePDCECUreceivesareversegearselectedmessage
fromtheBCM,theactivationofthesystemisdelayed
for1secondafterreversegearisselected.Thisavoids
unnecessaryaudiblewarningtoneswhentheautomatic
transmissionselectorleverisbeingmovedbetweenDriveand
Parkpositions.ThePDCECUthenactivatestheultrasonic
sensors,insequence,andoutputsasignaltotheBCMin
turntransmitsthesignaltotheinstrumentpack.Asingle
audiblewarningtoneisproducedtoindicatethesystem
isactive.Thesensorstransmit48kHZultrasonicpulses.
Anyreectionsfromthepulsesreceivedbythetransmitting
andadjacentsensorsarethenprocessedandoutputto
thePDCECUasdistancereadings.PDCECUthenprocesses
thedistancereadingsfromthesensorstodetermineifthere
areanyobstructionswithinthedetectionarea.Ifthereare
noobstructionsinthedetectionarea,therearenofurther
audiblewarningtones.Ifanobstructionisdetected,the
sounderproducesrepeatedaudiblewarningtones.Fromthe
edgeofthedetectionarea,approximately1500mmfromthe
rearofthevehicle,thefrequencyoftheaudiblewarningtones
increasesby1Hzper200mmuntil,atapproximately300mm
fromtheobstruction,theaudiblewarningtoneiscontinuous.

Caution:Blindspots,areaswherethesensorcannot
detectobstructions,mayoccurifobstructionsarepresent
atdistancesofaround200mmfromthesensors.

Whenreversegearisselected,thereverselightswitchcloses
providingthecamerawitha12Vsupply.Thecamerasendsthe
imagetothenavigationscreentoenablethedrivertoviewthe
areabehindthevehicleandanyobstructionsinitspath.
Diagnostics
Eachtimethesystemisactivated,thePDCECUandthe
sensorsperformselfcheckroutines.PDCECUalsoperforms
acheckofthesystemwiringforshort,opencircuitsand
incorrectspecicationsensors.Ifafaultisdetectedandis
presentforlongerthan3seconds,arelatedfaultcodeis
storedinthePDCECU(EEPROM)ofthePDCECUand
thesystemisdisabled.T oalertthedrivertoafault,ahigher
frequency3secondaudiblewarningtoneisproduced,inplace
ofthenormalshorttone,whenthesystemrstbecomes
active.Faultcodescanbeaccessedusingthediagnostic
instrument.
