Duringproduction,vehiclebodiesaretreatedwiththe
followinganti-corrosionmaterials:
APVC-basedunderbodysealerwhichissprayedontothe
undersideofthemainoor,rearoorandtherearwheel
arches.
Anapplicationofcavitywaxwhichissprayedintothesill
panels,sidememberextensionsandthelowerareasof
thedoorpanels.
Acoatofprotectivewaxisappliedtoareasofthewheel
archnotcoveredbytheliners.Wheneverbodyrepairs
arecarriedout,ensuretheanti-corrosionmaterialsin
theaffectedareaarerepairedorrenewedasnecessary
usingtheapprovedmaterials.
PrecautionsDuringBodyRepairsandHandling
T akecarewhenhandlingthevehicleintheworkshop.
Underbodysealers,seamsealers,underbodywaxandbody
panelsmaybedamagedifthevehicleiscarelesslylifted.
ProprietaryAnti-corrosionT reatments
Theapplicationofproprietaryanti-corrosiontreatments,in
additiontothefactory-appliedtreatment,couldinvalidatethe
CorrosionWarrantyandshouldbediscouraged.Thisdoesnot
applytohomologatedcompatible,preservativewaxeswhich
maybeappliedontopofexistingcoatings.
FittingApprovedAccessories
Whenttingaccessoriesensurethatthevehicle'scorrosion
protectionisnotaffected,eitherbybreakingtheprotective
coatingorbyintroducingamoisturetrap.
Donotscrewself-tappingscrewsdirectlyintobodypanels.Fit
suitableplasticinsertstothepanelbeforehand.Alwaysensure
thattheedgesofholesdrilledintopanels,chassismembers
andotherbodypartsareprotectedwithasuitablezincrich
oracidetchprimer,andfollowwithaprotectivewaxcoating
brushedontothesurroundingarea.
Donotattachpaintedmetalsurfacesofanyaccessorydirectly
tothevehicle'sbodyworkunlesssuitablyprotected.Where
metalfacesareboltedtogetheralwaysinterposeasuitable
interfacematerialsuchasweldablezincrichprimer,extruded
strip,orzinctape.
SteamCleaningandDe-waxing
Duetothehightemperaturesgeneratedbysteamcleaning
equipment,thereisariskthatcertaintrimcomponentscould
bedamagedandsomeadhesivesandcorrosionprevention
materialssoftenedorliqueed.Adjusttheequipmentsothat
thenozzletemperaturedoesnotexceed90°C(194°F).T ake
carenottoallowthesteamjettodwellononearea,andkeep
thenozzleatleast300mmfrompanelsurfaces.
DONOTremovewaxorlacquerfromunderbodyor
underbonnetareasduringrepairs.Shoulditbenecessary
tosteamcleantheseareas,applyanewcoatingofwaxor
underbodyprotectionassoonaspossible.
MaintenanceInspection
Carryoutthefollowingoperationstocheckbodyworkfor
corrosion:
Withthevehicleonalift,carryoutvisualcheckof
underbodysealerfordamage.
Withthevehiclelowered,inspectexteriorpaintworkfor
damageandbodypanelsforcorrosion.
Note:Ifthevehicleisdirty,itwillneedtobewashedprior
toinspectionofbodywork.
Thechecksdescribedaboveareintendedtobevisualonly.It
isnotintendedthattheoperatorshouldremovetrimpanels,
nishers,rubbingstripsorsound-deadeningmaterialswhen
checkingthevehicleforcorrosionandpaintdamage.
1.Withthevehicleonalift,andusinganinspectionorspot
lamp,visuallycheckforthefollowing:
Corrosiondamageanddamagedpaintwork,conditionof
underbodysealeronfrontandrearlowerpanels,sillsand
wheelarches;
Damagetounderbodysealer.Corrosioninareasadjacent
tosuspensionmountingsandfueltankxings.

Payspecialattentiontosignsofdamagecausedto
panelsorcorrosionprotectionmaterialbyincorrectjack
positioning.
Warning:Itisessentialtofollowthecorrectjackingand
liftingprocedures.
2.Withthevehiclelowered,visuallycheckforevidence
ofdamageandcorrosiononallvisiblepaintedareas,in
particularthefollowing:
Frontedgeofbonnet.
Visibleangesinenginecompartment.
Lowerbodyanddoorpanels.
Rectifyanybodyworkdamageorevidenceofcorrosion
foundduringinspectionassoonasispracticable,bothto
minimisetheextentofthedamageandtoensurethe
longtermeffectivenessofthefactory-appliedcorrosion
preventiontreatment.Wherecorrosionhasbecome
evidentandisemanatingfrombeneatharemovable
component(e.g.trimpanel,windowglass,seatetc.),
removethecomponentasrequiredtopermiteffective
rectication.
