PeriodicReplacementofSRSComponents
Theperformanceofthepropellantswithinairbagsand
pre-tensionerswilldeteriorateoveraperiodoftime.Asa
result,itisessentialthattheairbagsandpre-tensionersare
periodicallyreplacedtomaintainoccupantsafety.Airbags,
seatbeltpre-tensionersandtherotarycouplershouldbe
replacedat12yearintervals.
AirConditioningSystemPrecautions
General
Theairconditioningsystemcontainsuidsandcomponents
whichcouldbepotentiallyhazardoustotheserviceengineer
ortheenvironmentifnotservicedandhandledcorrectly.The
followingguidelinesareintendedtoalerttheserviceengineer
topotentialsourcesofdangerandemphasisetheimportance
ofensuringtheintegrityoftheairconditioningoperating
conditionsandcomponentsttedtothevehicle.
Wherenecessary,additionalspecicprecautionsaredetailed
intherelevantsectionsofthisManualwhichshouldbereferred
topriortocommencingrepairoperations.
TherefrigerantusedintheairconditioningsystemisHFC-134a
(Hydrouorocarbon)R134a.
Warning:Servicingmustonlybecarriedoutbypersonnel
familiarwithboththevehiclesystemandthechargingand
testingequipment.Alloperationsmustbecarriedoutin
awellventilatedareaawayfromopenameandheat
sources.
Warning:R134aisahazardousliquidandwhenhandled
incorrectlycancauseseriousinjury.Suitableprotective
clothing,consistingoffaceprotection,heat-proofgloves,
rubberbootsandrubberapronorwaterproofoveralls,
mustbewornwhencarryingoutoperationsontheair
conditioningsystem.
RemedialActions
IfanaccidentinvolvingR134ashouldoccur,conductthe
followingremedialactions:
•IfliquidR134aenterstheeye,donotrubit.Gentlyrun
largequantitiesofeyewashoveraffectedeyetoraisethe
temperature.Ifaneyewashisnotavailable,cool,clean
watermaybeusedtoushtheeye.Afterrinsing,cover
theeyewithacleanpadandseekimmediatemedical
attention.
•IfliquidR134aissplashedontotheskin,runlarge
quantitiesofwaterovertheaffectedareatoraisethe
temperature.Implementthesameactioniftheskin
comesincontactwithdischargingcylinders.Wrap
thecontaminatedbodypartsinblankets(orsimilar
materials)andseekimmediatemedicalattention.
•IfthedebilitatingeffectsofinhalationofR134avapour
issuspected,seekfreshair.Iftheaffectedpersonis
unconscious,movethemawayfromthecontaminated
areatofreshairandapplyarticialrespirationand/or
oxygenandseekimmediatemedicalattention.
