Prime Line Preference
Get dial tone for a new outside or Intercom call just by lifting the handset.
If your extension has Prime Line Preference, you can place a call by just lifting the handset or pressing SPEAKER. You do
not have to press a line key, a loop key, or INTERCOM rst.
Prime Line Types
There are two types of Prime Line: Idle Prime Line and Intercom Prime Line.
Idle Prime Line
With Idle Prime Line, you get dial tone for an outside call when you lift the handset or press SPEAKER. Your Prime
Line key will be a line key or loop key. You can also have Prime Line to a line group. If you predominantly place
outside calls, Idle Prime Line will be helpful.
Intercom Prime Line
With Intercom Prime Line, you get Intercom dial tone when you lift the handset or press SPEAKER. If you more
frequently call co-workers, choose Intercom Prime Line. As long as your extensions Busy Lamp Field is disabled
(which it is by default), your Feature Keys do not go into the DSS mode when you lift the handset.
Secondary Prime Line
If your Prime Line is busy, you can automatically connect to an alternate (Secondary) Prime Line when you lift the handset.
For example, you can have line 1 as your Primary Prime Line and Line Group 90 (dial 9) as your Secondary Prime Line.
Normally, youll get line 1 when you lift the handset. If line 1 is busy, however, youll automatically connect to an available
line in group 90 instead.
Prime Line and Ringing Line Preference
Ringing Line Preference has priority over Prime Line. For example, if you have Ringing Line Preference enabled on your
phone, lifting the handset will answer the ringing call. You will not get dial tone on your Prime Line.
See Ringing Line Preference on page 159 for more.
