Addressing
T
he safety laser scanner needs a unique IP address, the sub-network mask and,
possibly, the IP address of the router to be able to exchange data with other devices in
the network.
The safety laser scanner also requires a PROFINET name.
As long as no configuration has been transferred to the device, you can change the
network settings via a network connection without logging in to the device.
Options for assigning the data to the safety laser scanner:
In Safety Designer in the Addressing dialog
With a configuration software for PROFINET networks
With a PROFINET control unit
If you store the IP address remanently, it is retained even after switching the system off
and on again. It can be changed, however, from the PROFINET control unit.

t www.sick.com, you’ll find the latest GSDML file for integrating the safety laser
scanner in the control unit.
Approach
1.
Import the GSDML file to the control unit’s configuration software.
2. Search the hardware catalog to find the desired device, e.g. use the search func‐
tion and enter “SICK” or “microScan3”.
3. Add the device to the project and connect to the control unit.
4. To use a different process image, select a different module, if necessary.
5. Assign PROFINET names.
6. Set the PROFIsafe parameters in the submodule.
