Removing the lower unit
1. Drain the gear oil.
2. Set the gear shift to the N position, place
a block of wood between the anti-cavita-
tion plate and propeller to keep the pro-
peller from turning, and then remove the
propeller nut and propeller.
WARNING
Do not hold the propeller with your
hands when loosening or tightening the
propeller nut.
Be sure to disconnect the battery cables
from the battery and remove the clip
from the engine shut-off switch. (E and
W model)
3. Remove the lower mount cover. (L-tran-
som model)
4. Loosen the locknut 1 while holding the
adjusting nut 2, and then turn the adjust-
ing nut to disconnect the shift rod 3.
NOTE:
Set the gear shift to the N position before dis-
connecting the shift rod 3.
5. Remove the lower case mounting bolts
4 and 5, and then remove the lower
unit.
6. Remove the trim tab 6, anode 7, and
cooling water inlet covers 8.
