VRRP Cautions
This section describes important details to be aware of when configuring VRRP.
Assigning Multiple Virtual IP Addresses
It is possible to assign multiple virtual IP addresses to the same VRID for a VRRP VR. In this case, you
must meet the following conditions:
â—Ź Multiple virtual IP addresses must be on the same subnet.
â—Ź The switch cannot own any of the multiple IP addresses.
For example, if you have a VLAN named v1 configured with IP addresses 1.1.1.1/24 and 2.2.2.2/24, the
following configurations are allowed:
â—Ź VRRP VR on VLAN v1 with VRID 99 with virtual IP addresses 1.1.1.2 and 1.1.1.3
â—Ź VRRP VR on VLAN v1 with VRID 99 with virtual IP addresses 1.1.1.98 and 1.1.1.99
Using the VLAN v1 configuration described above, the following configurations are not allowed:
â—Ź VRRP VR on VLAN v1 with VRID 99 with virtual IP addresses 1.1.1.1 and 2.2.2.2 (the IP addresses
are not on the same subnet).
â—Ź VRRP VR on VLAN v1 with VRID 99 with virtual IP addresses 1.1.1.1 and 1.1.1.99 (the switch owns
IP address 1.1.1.1).
VRRP and ESRP
Do not configure VRRP and ESRP on the same VLAN or port. This configuration is not allowed or
supported.
