For information about the modules you can install in the NetIron, see the following sections:
•“Management IV Module on page 9-6
•“NetIron and BigIron Forwarding Modules on page 9-10
FastIron II Family
Foundry Networks' FastIron II family are next-generation closet solutions that provide enterprises with the
resiliency required in mission critical networks.
The FastIron II family of Layer 2 Switches contains the following:
FastIron II and FastIron II Plus These Layer 2 Switches provide high density 10/100 to Gigabit Ethernet
edge connectivity. These switches provide redundant, non-blocking chassis-based solutions consisting of up
to 72 auto-sensing, auto-negotiating 10/100 Mbps ports and from two to eight 8 Gigabit Ethernet fiber ports.
Enterprises that require greater 10/100-Mbps port density can deploy the FastIron II Plus for up to 168 10/100
Mbps ports and 2 to 8 Gigabit Ethernet fiber ports, or 144 10/100 and 16 Gigabit Ethernet fiber ports.
FastIron II GC and FastIron II Plus GC The FastIron II GC and FastIron II Plus GC offer industry standard
1000Base-T connectivity for organizations that require greater bandwidth to power workstations and servers.
The FastIron II GC is available in two base configurations, 24 1000 Mbps ports or 16 1000 Mbps ports plus 24
10/100 Mbps ports. An open slot provides the flexibility for additional 10/100 or 1000 Mbps port density. The
FastIron II Plus GC offers the industry's highest Gigabit Ethernet copper density with 64 ports.
Foundry offers many configurations of the FastIron II products listed above with various combinations of 10/100,
SX, LX, and GC ports to meet your networking needs. You also of course can order individual modules as needed
for upgrades, replacements, or spares. The following sections list the modules. For more information, contact
Foundry Networks.
FastIron II Management Modules
You can use redundant management modules or standard (non-redundant) management modules in a FastIron II
chassis.
Redundant Management Modules
2-port Gigabit LX management module (FI2GM-2LX)
2-port Gigabit SX management module (FI2GMR)
4-port Gigabit LX management module (FI4GMR-4LX)
4-port Gigabit SX management module (FI4GMR)
4-port Gigabit SX/LX management module (FI4GMR-2LX)
8-port Gigabit LX management module (FI8GMR-8LX)
8-port Gigabit SX management module (FI8GMR)
8-port Gigabit with SX/LX management module (FI8GMR-2LX and FI8GMR-4LX)
Each module supports redundancy. Thus, you can add management redundancy to a FastIron II chassis by
installing two of these modules, in any combination. For more information about redundant management
modules, see Using Redundant Management Modules on page 5-1.
Standard Management Modules
These management modules do not support redundancy. You can use only one of them in a FastIron II chassis.
2-port Gigabit LX management module (FI2GM-2LX)
4-port Gigabit SX management module (FI4GM)
4-port Gigabit SX/LX management module (FI4GM-2LX)
4-port Gigabit LX management module (FI4GM-4LX)
8-port Gigabit SX management module (FI8GM)
