The Computer port
You can use the PS1000 COMPUTER port via a single serial cable instead of
the MIDI IN and MIDI OUT ports. The COMPUTER port disables the MIDI
ports if connected.
Piloting PS1000 with a Master Keyboard
Master keyboards are generally mute instruments (without sound generators)
and require external sound sources to produce sounds. The PS1000 sound
generator can operate as an external slave sound source for a master key-
board. The Master keyboard must transmit MIDI messages on the same MIDI
channel as the PS1000 Common channel. An instant setting can be achieved
by selecting the “KBD-1” MIDISET preset.
All Bank Select (CC00) and Program Change (PC) messages normally used to
select PS1000 sounds and transmitted on the Common channel are interpreted
as Preset Change, Style Change, Song Style Change or Song Change mes-
sages.
If you want to pilot the PS1000 as well as other instruments with the master
keyboard, connect the MIDI IN of the additional MIDI device to the MIDI THRU
of the PS1000.
Selecting Styles via MIDI Common
To select a PS1000 Style from the master keyboard, you must send two control
change messages: Bank Select CC00: value 32 and CC32: value 0, followed
by a Program Change (PC) message with the values 00-95 (ROM Styles), 96-
111 (User Styles).
Controlling Styles via MIDI Common
The Style controls can be simulated by sending Control Change 80 or 81 mes-
sages to PS1000 via the Common Channel with the values shown in the tables
listed opposite (Style control; One Shot and On/Off).
If the master keyboard has programmable buttons, it is possible to assign them
some control messages and control all directly from the master.
Selecting the Effects via MIDI COMMON
To select the Effects from a Master Keyboard or computer via the Common
channel, you must send two Control Change messages relating to the Effect
change: CC16: 0 … 64, CC48: nn (number of the effect) with the values shown
in the table listed in the Appendix.
Note: Control Change 16 with value 0 selects the REVERB DSP, while with
value 64 selects the CHORUS DSP.
Control Change 48 must always be followed by the number of the effect type
required.
Selecting Songs, Song Styles or Presets via MIDI Common
To select a Song, Song Style or Preset from the master keyboard, send a Bank
Select (CC00) and Program Change (PC) message via the Common channel
with the values shown in the tables listed opposite (Song RAM, Song Style
RAM, Preset RAM).
Selecting the Sound Banks via MIDI (Bk 1, 2, 3, 5, 6)
There are 5 Sound banks in the PS1000 which can be selected via MIDI using
the CC00 + bank value message and organized as follows:
Bank 1, 2, 3 correspond to the GMX sound map;
Bank 5 corresponds to the SAMPLES bank (1 … 8).
Bank 6 corresonds to the “invisible” bank containing 60 ROM Sounds.
Refer to the Appendix for the Sound lists and banks.
