SAFETY PRECAUTIONS FOR MAINTENANCE
2-43
PRECAUTIONS WITH COMPRESSED AIR
q When carrying out cleaning with compressed air, there is a hazard of serious personal injury caused by flying
dust or particles.
q When using compressed air to clean the filter element or radiator, wear safety glasses, anti-dust mask, gloves,
and other protective equipment.
CHEMICAL HAZARD
During maintenance or dismantling operations, where there is a risk of contact with hazardous chemical sub-
stances, relevant safety precautions should be taken.
If any doubt exists, contact your Komatsu distributor.

TIONER (2-43)
MAINTENANCE OF AIR CONDITIONER
q If air conditioner refrigerant gets into your eyes, it may cause loss of sight; if it contacts your skin, it may cause
frostbite. Never loosen any parts of the cooling circuit.
DISPOSING OF WASTE MATERIALS
To prevent pollution, pay careful attention to the method of disposing of waste materials.
q Always put oil drained from your machine in containers.
Never drain oil directly onto the ground or dump into the
sewage system, rivers, the sea, or lakes.
q Obey appropriate laws and regulations when disposing of
harmful objects such as oil, fuel, coolant, solvent, filters,
and batteries.
MERCURY CONTAINING COMPONENT(S)
The monitor display backlight contains mercury. The machine may be equipped with optional High Intensity Dis-
charge lighting lamps which also may contain mercury. These components must be reused, recycled or properly
disposed of in accordance with applicable Local, State and Federal Laws.
METHOD OF SELECTING WINDOW WASHER FLUID
Use an ethyl alcohol base washer liquid.
Methyl alcohol base washer liquid may irritate your eyes, so do not use it.
PERIODIC REPLACEMENT OF SAFETY CRITICAL PARTS
q To enable this machine to be used safely for a long period, always carry out periodic replacement of safety crit-
ical parts that have a particularly close relation to safety, such as hoses and the seatbelt.
For details of the replacement of safety critical parts, see “SAFETY CRITICAL PARTS (4-15)“.
q The material of these components naturally changes over time, and repeated use causes deterioration, wear,
and fatigue. As a result, there is a hazard that these components may fail and cause serious personal injury or
death. It is difficult to judge the remaining life of these components from external inspection or the feeling
when operating, so always replace them at the specified interval.
