THE
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
5. After
any
adjustment
to
the
air
gap,
check the relay
cut-in
and
drop-off
voltages
as
follows:
a.
Connect
a
variable direct
current
supply between
the relay terminals
‘W1’
and
‘W2’
and
a
12-volt
direct-current supply
in circuit
with
a
test
lamp
between
terminals
‘Cl’
and
‘C2’.
b.
Raise
the voltage slowly from
zero
to
15 volts
and check
that the
test
lamp
lights
at
4.0.t0 7.5
volts.
c.
Reduce the
voltage
slowly
from 15
to
zero
volts
and
check that the
test
lamp
goes
out at
5 volts
maximum.

Repeat
operation

as necessary,
and
recheck
the
relay
cut-in
and drop-off voltages.
6.
Ret
the relay
cover
and
crimp
the
cover
lip
at
the
points
provided.

Removing
1.
Remove
the
driver’s
seat
assembly,
see
Section RM.
2.
Fold back
the
carpets
and
disconnect the
switch
wires
at
the
multi-connector
plug.
3.
Remove
the locknut
and
withdraw the
switch
from
the bracket
on
the hand
brake
lever
assembly.
Refitting
4. Reverse
the
procedure
in l
to
3,
noting
that the
switch
should
be
adjusted
so
that
the
warning light
flashes
when
the
hand
brake
lever
is
pulled
up
onto
the first
ratchet
tooth.

SWITCHES

and

Removing
IMPORTANT:
Disconnect
the
battery
before
attempting
to
remove any
of
the
switches.
Light
switch
1. Remove
the
three bolts
securing the steering-column
to
the fascia
support
rail and lower
the column.
2.
Remove
the
three
screws
securing the right-hand half
of
the
steering-column
cowl.

3.
Withdraw
the right-hand
cowl
over
the
column
switch.
4. Disconnect
the
wires
from
the light
switch,
noting
their
connected
positions.
5.
Depress
the
switch
retaining clips
and withdraw
the
switch from
the
cowl.
Ignition
starter
switch and
steering lock
6.
Remove
the three bolts
securing
the
steering-column
t0
the fascia
support
rail
and
lower
the column.
7.
Remove
the four
screws
securing
the
two
halves of
the
steering-column
cowl.
Withdraw
the
cowl halves
over
the column
switches.
9.
Disconnect
the
ignition switch
wires
at
the
multi-connector
plug.
10.
Remove
the small
retaining
screw
and
withdraw
the
ignition
starter
switch
assembly
out
Of
the
steering
lock
housing.
11.
Drill
out
the shear bolt
heads
from
the clamp
plate.
Alternatively;
use an
extractor
to
remove
the bolts.
12.
Free
the
lock
assembly from
the clamp
plate.

Fascia
switches
13. Remove
the fascia
assembly,
see
Section
R.39.
14.
Disconnect
the multi-connector
plugs
from
the
switch
terminals.
15.
Depress
the
switch
retaining clips
and withdraw
the
switch
from
the
fascia.
Panel
lamp
rheostat
switch
16.
Remove the fascia,
see
Section
R39.
17.
Disconnect the
wires
from
the
switch terminals.
18.
Depress
the
pin in
the
switch knob
and
withdraw the
knob from
the
switch.
19. Unscrew
the
switch
retainer
and
remove
the
switch
from
the fascia.
Direction
indicator/main
beam/horn
control
switch
20.
Remove
the
steering-wheel
pad.
21.
Remove
the
steering-wheel.
22.
Remove
the
steering-column
cowls,
as
in
6
t0
8.
23.
Disconnect
the
switch
multi-connector
plugs.
24.
Slacken
the
switch clamp
screw.
25.
Withdraw
the
switch
assembly
from
the
steering-column.
26.
Remove
the
insulating
tape to
separate
the electrical
leads
of
the
two
switches.
27.
Drill
out
the
two
rivets
securing
the
wiper/washer
switch
to
the
mounting
plate.
28.
Remove
the
screw
and detach
the wiper/washer
switch
from
the direction
indicator
switch
mounting
plate.

the switch
