Attendant Console
With the Inter-Tel 5000 platform, the attendant function can be served by a software application
operating on a personal computer (PC) or by a multiline display endpoint and attachment.
Personal Computer Application
The Attendant Console is a special software program and hardware security key that allows
attendants to use a PC to answer and manage incoming call traffic. Although designed for use
with larger communication systems, the Attendant Console provides enhanced functionality
such as electronic text messaging and directory dialing for smaller systems, as well.
The Attendant Console PC, which requires a System Level 2 OAI interface, is connected to the
system through a TCP/IP connection. For details about equipment functions and operation,
refer to the Attendant Console User Guide supplied with the console software.
Attendant Service Endpoint
To achieve Attendant-like capability on the Inter-Tel 5000 platform, Inter-Tel recommends using
the Model 8660 endpoint with a Model 8416 Mini-DSS Unit attached. The endpoint is equipped
with a jack for plugging in an Inter-Tel handset or headset.
To operate correctly, the Model 8660 must be programmed for headset mode. This can be done
in one of the following ways:
Enable Headset Mode in Endpoint Programming in the system database.
At the endpoint, unplug the headset or handset to take the endpoint off-hook and enter the
Headset On/Off feature code (317) to enable headset mode. Then, plug in the headset or
handset.
If the user wishes to receive audible signals at the headset, a programmable endpoint flag can
be set to send a single tone to the headset when a call rings in. For details, see the endpoint
programming flags in the Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming Guide (part no. 580.8006).
NOTE
Using the Headset On/Off feature code at the station, the user can disable
the headset mode.
