Comparison of Inter-Tel Advanced Communications
Platforms
Three notable differences exist between the Inter-Tel 5000 and the Inter-Tel Axxess advanced
communications platforms:
• The Inter-Tel 5000 platform—whether configured as a CS-5200, CS-5400, or CS-5600
system—has a single physical Ethernet port shared for all IP telephony and administrative
functions. The Inter-Tel Axxess platform has one port for administrative functionality and
SIP and potentially multiple (IPRC) ports for other IP telephony protocols. Also, the Inter-
Tel CS-5400 has two IP addresses. The second IP address is used for VoIP only.
• Because the Inter-Tel 5000 has a single physical Ethernet interface, it has a single
network location. It cannot operate both inside the firewall and outside the firewall.
• The Inter-Tel 5000 platform is built on an open-source Linux
®
platform that could present a
greater security risk than the Inter-Tel Axxess platform, which operates on Inter-Tel
proprietary technology.
Table B-1. Port Assignments
Type Default Ports and Protocol Comments for Firewall
Voice Over IP 6004–6246/UDP(RTP)
6005–7039/UDP(RTCP)
Enable only if using VoIP outside the
firewall.
Inter-Tel Protocol (ITP) 5566/TCP(ITP Call Control)
5567/UDP(ITP Call Control)
Enable only if using ITP IP endpoints
outside the firewall.
SIP Trunks and Endpoints 5060/UDP(SIP) Enable only if using SIP endpoints (via
SIP Server) or SIP trunks outside the
firewall.
MGCP Trunks 2427/UDP(MGCP) Enable only if using MGCP trunks outside
the firewall.
Inter-Tel Private Networking
a
5570/TCP Enable only if using Inter-Tel Private
Networking over IP outside the firewall.
Administration/Applications
• DB Programming
• OAI
• Diagnostic Monitor
4000/TCP Enable only if necessary for external
communications through the firewall.
• OAI Broadcast
4000/UDP
Diagnostics
• Diagnostics Web Interface
80/TCP(HTTP) Enable only if directed by Technical
Support or Engineering.
• AVDAP Monitor
4444/TCP
• Secure Shell
22/TCP(SSH)
Conferencing 80/TCP(HTTP) Enable this port to the IWAC Server if its
Web pages need to be accessible from
the Internet.
a. Private, managed networks are preferred for Inter-Tel Private Networking. Although networking over the Internet is possible,
it is not recommended.
