Inter-Tel IP Endpoint Configuration
You can set up DHCP to avoid having to program each Inter-Tel endpoint manually.
To configure the Inter-Tel IP endpoints automatically:
1. Make sure the Inter-Tel 5000 system is up and running, and then make sure you have
done the following (if applicable):
Configured Inter-Tel IP endpoints in DB Programming (refer to the Inter-Tel 5000
Features and Programming Guide (part no: 580.8006). Also, read “Notices” on
page 5-101.
See the troubleshooting section on page 5-158 for any endpoint issues.
2. Check that DHCP option 66 is configured and pointing to the IP address of the Inter-Tel
5000 base server. This ensures the Inter-Tel IP endpoints retrieve the globalcfg.cfg file
from the Inter-Tel 5000. DHCP option 66 supersedes any TFTP address setting on the
endpoint (also option 67 needs to be blank or “/”).
3. Optional. If you completed step 14 on page 5-153, as part of the software upgrade, the
Inter-Tel firmware is now available to the Inter-Tel endpoints from the onboard TFTP
server.
4. Continue to the Programming chapter in the Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming
Guide (part no: 580.8006) for information on programming endpoints or other features in
this release.
MItel 5330/5340 Setup for Teleworking
This section details what must be done to configure the Mitel 5330/5340 endpoints for
teleworkers.
To configure the Mitel IP endpoints for teleworkers:
1. Make sure the Inter-Tel 5000 system is up and running, and then make sure you have
done the following (if applicable):
Configured the Mitel IP endpoints in DB Programming (refer to the Inter-Tel 5000
Features and Programming Guide (part no: 580.8006). Also, read “Notices” on
page 5-101. Make sure the endpoint is configured to use the NAT option.
If a Mitel IP endpoint is pointing to the Inter-Tel 5000 and the endpoint has not been
configured in DB Programming, the display appears to be downloading but nothing
is actually happening. You must configure the Mitel IP endpoints in DB
Programming before configuring the endpoint.
Check that the main office firewall allows port 69 (TFTP) as well as the other call
control ports mentioned in “” on page 1-3.
Check that the Inter-Tel 5000 is configured with the NATed address for the
Processor Module and the Processor Expansion Card.
Check that the main office firewall has the correct mapping for the appropriate
ports. If needed, see “Network IP Topology” on page B-1.
Make sure all teleworker endpoints are not in a call configuration that uses P2P.
See the troubleshooting section on page 5-158 for any endpoint issues.
2. Hold down the volume keys and boot the endpoint to get in programming mode.
IMPORTANT
If a customer has individual MAC-specific .cfg files or a custom
globalcfg.cfg file, you must copy these files to the Inter-Tel 5000
using the OLM epmgt command (documented in KB entry 3150).
