5000 Installation Manual – Issue 2.4, May 2008
Chapter Overview
Correct installation and operation of the Inter-Tel 5000 platform depends on a technician’s ability
to access accurate and complete information about the system. The following pages provide a
composite of system’s environmental, physical, and electrical characteristics, as well as its
computing and networking capabilities. Applicable industry, quality, and workmanship standards
have been identified where appropriate.
Information in the chapter flows from general environmental parameters, installation hardware,
and cabling requirements to specific details about component dimensions and characteristics,
networking and power requirements, and power surge and power interruption protection
measures.
Sections summarizing specifications for endpoints and peripheral equipment compose the final
sections of the chapter.
Environmental Requirements
Table 4-1 shows the ranges of environmental conditions for operation and storage of Inter-Tel
5000 platform equipment and endpoints.
Software Version Compatibility
The Inter-Tel 5000 platform requires the Linux operating system version shipped with the
software release to ensure proper operation of version-related features. Failure to use the
correct operating system version may result in system instability. Clicking the Update All button
on the Administrative Web Session page ensures that the correct operating system, call
processing (CP) code, and all drivers and associated software are installed.
NOTICE
Possible Malfunction Due to Overheating. Never exceed the maximum operating
temperature listed in Table 4-1. When installing the chassis and endpoints, allow a sufficient
margin for error in case of air conditioning failure, routine maintenance, plant shutdown, etc.
As a general guideline, if the conditions are suitable for office personnel, they are also
suitable for all equipment and endpoint operation. A properly controlled environment will help
to extend the operating life of the equipment.
