Chapter Overview
This chapter discusses the Inter-Tel
®
5000 Network Communications Solutions family of
products that provide an enhanced IP solution for small- and medium-sized business
environments.
The Inter-Tel 5000 is a family of converged communications platforms that supports Internet
Protocol (IP), digital, and analog single line endpoints. Systems are marketed as the Inter-Tel
CS-5200, CS-5400, and CS-5600 Communication Servers.
Brief System Descriptions
The Inter-Tel CS-5200 is the basic system. In the default configuration, it comes with 5 IP
endpoint licenses and 3 IP networking resources. With required hardware and licensing, the
Inter-Tel CS-5200 can support a mix of up to 75 IP endpoints, IP network trunks, and/or IP
gateway trunks.
The Inter-Tel CS-5400 is an Inter-Tel CS-5200 with a Processor Expansion Card (PEC-1) and
licensing added to the system. In the default configuration, it comes with 5 IP endpoint licenses
and 6 IP networking resources. With required hardware and licensing, the Inter-Tel CS-5400
can support a mix of up to 175 IP endpoints, IP network trunks, and/or IP gateway trunks.
The Inter-Tel CS-5600 consists of a Base Server, which is actually an Inter-Tel CS-5400, and a
Processing Server (PS-1) which is a Linux
®
server that provides call processing power and
communicates with the Base Server across the customer’s local area network (LAN).
Running v2.x software with applicable equipment and programming options, trunking, and
licensing, the Inter-Tel CS-5200 supports 25–75 IP endpoints and 4 or 8 BVM ports. The CS-
5400 supports 110–175 IP endpoints and 4 or 8 BVM ports. And, the CS-5600 supports 110–
250 IP endpoints and 4, 8, 12, or 16 BVM ports.
Optional external voice mail systems such as Enterprise
®
Messaging (EM) or a Voice
Processing Unit (VPU) can be attached to any of the three systems. In addition, with optional
equipment and programming options, trunking, and licensing the systems support up to 192
digital endpoints and 54 single line analog endpoints.
