Upgrading from Inter-Tel CS-5200 to CS-5400
Additional licences and the installation of a Processor Expansion Card (PEC-1) transforms an
Inter-Tel CS-5200 platform into an Inter-Tel CS-5400. To complete the upgrade, the following
applicable licences are required:
• “Upgrade from Inter-Tel CS-5200 to Inter-Tel CS-5400 Base,” part no. 840.0240.
• If the Inter-Tel CS-5200 system is already licensed with “CS-5200 IP Networking,” part no.
840.0224, then “CS-5400 IP Networking Upgrade,” part no. 840.0223, is also required.

Licensing Scenarios
The following three scenarios cover hardware and licensing changes associated with upgrading
to an Inter-Tel 5000 system running v2.1 or later:
• Software Upgrade: A customer owns or leases an Inter-Tel CS-5200, CS-5400, or
CS-5600 system running on an Inter-Tel 5000 v1.x or v2.0 license. Customers upgrading
from v1.x to v2.1 require a v1.x to v2.0 Upgrade license, part no. 840.0623 and a v2.0 to
v2.1 Upgrade license, part no. 840.0725. In this scenario, the customer also requires a
new v2.1 license for the CS-5200/CS-5400 system, part no. 840.0724.
• System Upgrade: A customer owns or leases an Inter-Tel CS-5200, CS-5400, or
CS-5600 system and plans on upgrading to an Inter-Tel CS-5600. The customer must
purchase the following items to complete the upgrade:
o 1 – Inter-Tel CS-5600 Processing Server (PS-1) chassis, part no. 580.5600.
o If upgrading from an Inter-Tel CS-5200 system, a Processor Expansion Card (PEC-1),
part no. 580.2020, must be installed on the Processor Module (PM-1), part no.
580.2200, to create an Inter-Tel CS-5400, or Inter-Tel CS-5600 Base Server. For
complete instructions, see “Upgrading System Software to Version 2.x” on page 5-146.
o If upgrading from an Inter-Tel CS-5400 system, a new security key is not necessary—
simply move the existing security key from the Inter-Tel CS-5400 system to the PS-1.
o A v1.x to v2.0 license, part no. 840.0623, for the PS-1 and the same Inter-Tel serial
number as the in-place Inter-Tel CS-5400 system.
o A v2.0 Upgrade license, part no. 840.0623, for the CS-5600 system type and the same
Inter-Tel serial number as the in-place Inter-Tel CS-5400 system.
o A v2.1 Upgrade license, part no. 840.0725, for the CS-5600 system type and the same
Inter-Tel serial number as the in-place Inter-Tel CS-5400 system.
• New Purchase: A customer buys a new Inter-Tel CS-5200, CS-5400 or CS-5600 in a kit
that includes the v2.1 license, part no. 840.0724. If buying a new Inter-Tel CS-5600, the
customer receives the Base Server and PS-1 hardware, a single USB security key for the
PS-1, and the Inter-Tel CS-5600 CPU license. For applicable part numbers, see “Parts and
