Communication Types
The following communication types are discussed in this appendix. If using the online PDF
manual, click the title to jump to the topic.
• Administration (see below)
• IP Endpoints and Trunks (see below)
• Inter-Tel Private Networking (see below)
• “Computer Telephony Integration (CTI)” on page B-6
• “Inter-Tel Audio and Web Conferencing” on page B-6
• “System Manager” on page B-6
Administration
The Inter-Tel 5000 platform provides administrative functions through its network connection.
These functions include:
• Inter-Tel DB Programming
• Inter-Tel System Manager
• Web-based diagnostics
• Diagnostics Monitor
• TFTP: Trivial File Transfer Protocol
• SSH/Telnet/USB Console
IP Endpoints and Trunks
The Inter-Tel 5000 platform communicates to endpoints through the internet protocol (IP). There
is an Inter-Tel proprietary protocol known as Inter-Tel Proprietary mode (ITP) as well as the
industry-standards protocol SIP, MGCP, OAI, and RTP.
• Voice to/from the Inter-Tel 5000 platform
• Peer-to-peer voice
• ITP: Inter-Tel Protocol
• TFTP: Trivial File Transfer Protocol
• MGCP: Media Gateway Control Protocol
• SIP: Session Initiation Protocol
Inter-Tel Private Networking
The Inter-Tel CS-5200/5400/5600 is capable of connecting with other Inter-Tel CS-5200/5400/
5600 and Inter-Tel Axxess systems to form a network that supports many call processing
features. This networking capability can be implemented using point-to-point T1 or PRI circuits,
or it can be implemented using IP. This appendix is focused on IP-based Inter-Tel networking.
See Inter-Tel Private Networking for information on how to set up and program IP Networking.
Appendix A also provides information on setting up and programming T1 networking.
