Upgrading from CS-5200 v1.x to CS-5600 v2.x
Before performing the following upgrade process, read “Network Environment Requirements”
on page 5-146 and “Upgrade Assumptions” on page 5-146.
Because the Inter-Tel CS-5600 Base Server is actually an Inter-Tel CS-5400 system, the first
task in upgrading an Inter-Tel CS-5200 to a CS-5600 is to convert the CS-5200 to a CS-5400 by
installing a Processor Expansion Card (PEC-1) on the Processor Module (PM-1).
For instructions about installing the PEC-1 on the PM-1, see the preceding upgrade process,
“Upgrading from CS-5200 v1.x or v2.x to CS-5400 v2.x” on page 5-164.
With the Base Server/Inter-Tel CS-5400 in place, proceed to the following process, “Upgrading
from CS-5400 v1.x or v2.x to CS-5600 v2.x,” which follows.
Upgrading from CS-5400 v1.x or v2.x to CS-5600 v2.x
Before performing the following upgrade process and procedures, read “Network Environment
Requirements” on page 5-146 and “Upgrade Assumptions” on page 5-146.
This section describes the parts and materials and the process and applicable procedures
required to upgrade an Inter-Tel CS-5400 system to a CS-5600 system.
Parts and Materials
Upgrading an Inter-Tel CS-5400 system running v1.x, with or without Digital Expansion Interface
(DEI) units, to an Inter-Tel CS-5600 system requires the following items:
1 – Processing Server unit, part no. 580.5600.
Applicable licensing.
Personal computer (PC) with Ethernet/Internet connectivity to the Inter-Tel 5000 platform.
One of the following input-output setups:
o A monitor, keyboard, and mouse, or
o A laptop PC, straight-through RS-232 cable terminated with DB-9 connectors, part no.
813.1683, and a null modem with hardware flow control, part no. 804.2605. The Inter-
Tel Universal RS-232 Kit, part no. 828.1282. For connection details, see Figure 5-27
on page 5-53.
NOTE
Inter-Tel 5000 v2.x software will not prevent the installation of a PS-1 on an Inter-Tel
CS-5200. However, in this configuration system performance will probably be
degraded because call processing will have significantly fewer IP resources to use.
IMPORTANT
When installing v2.0 or later software, the license must match the
system CPU type. An Inter-Tel CS-5200 system requires a CS-5200
license; an Inter-Tel CS-5400 system requires a CS-5400 license; and,
an Inter-Tel CS-5600 system requires a CS-5600 license.
