Procedure: Upgrading the System to Version 2.4
Upgrading to v2.4 hardware and/or software requires the following considerations. If not
discussed here, refer to the appropriate sections referenced as well as the Inter-Tel 5000
Features and Programming Guide (part no: 580.8006).
• Network Environment Requirements
• Upgrade Options: Upgrading to Inter-Tel 5000 v2.4 can involve several combinations of
hardware and software. For detailed discussion of possible scenarios and required
procedures, see “Upgrade Scenarios” on page 5-162.
• Upgrade Licensing: A USB security key holds the Inter-Tel 5000 serial number for a
system being upgraded. Licensing is uploaded from DB Programming. The license must
match the serial number on the key or the upload will fail.
For Inter-Tel CS-5200 and CS-5400 systems, the security key is inserted in the USB-B
port on the front of the Base Server. See Figure 5-1 on page 5-15. For the Inter-Tel CS-
5600, four USB ports on the back of the PS-1 accept the system security key. See Figure
5-25 on page 5-50. In the CS-5600 configuration, the Base Server does not need a
security key.
Although no charge applies to upgrading a system license from v2.x to v2.4, systems
running on a v1.2 license must first upgrade to a v2.0 license, which is a chargeable
license. From v2.x, you can upgrade the license directly to v2.4. For details about
licensing required to upgrade to v2.4, see “Licensing Options for v2.4” on page 3-13.
To upgrade the system to version 2.4:
1. This upgrade assumes the following:
• The system is at version 2.x. If not at version 2.x, refer to the main installation
manual for information necessary to get to this version.
• You are using IE v6.x or IE v7.x. If using earlier IE browser versions, upgrade to
newer versions. This procedure has not been tested with other browsers.
NOTICE
Because of the extra storage required for endpoint firmware, Inter-Tel highly recommends
that systems running Basic Voice Mail (BVM) upgrade the CompactFlash
®
card to either
512MB (part number 841.0274) or 1024MB (part number 841.0273) before upgrading the
system to v2.4.
NOTE
For DB Programming information discussed in this section and procedure, refer to
the Inter-Tel 5000 Features and Programming Guide (part no: 580.8006).
IMPORTANT
Space Limitations:
• If installing voice prompts, keep in mind space limitations
on the compact flash-type Inter-Tel memory card. If you no
longer want a particular language prompt set, remove it
and install the desired language prompt package.
• When downloading the files, the system checks to make
sure there is enough available space on the compact flash
to upgrade all components. If there is not enough space to
complete the upgrade for all packages, a dialog box
appears warning you there is not enough space and the
upgrade process will be aborted. Delete unused voice mail
messages to free up space, and then restart the system
upgrade.
