UPPER PLASTIC COVER REPLACEMENT
Endrails or Siderails with Moving Access Doors
TOOLS REQUIRED:
• #1 Phillips Screwdriver
• Small Regular Screwdriver
PROCEDURE:
Note
Unless otherwise indicated, refer to Figure 24, page 1-56, for this procedure.
1. Raise the rail to be repaired to the highest position and apply the brakes.
2. Using a #1 Phillips screwdriver, remove the eight screws (F) holding the top half of the upper plastic cover (G) to
the bottom half of the upper plastic cover (H). If repairing a siderail, open the access door to reach the two screws
located at the end of the bottom half of the upper plastic cover.
3. Insert a small regular screwdriver between the two halves of the upper plastic cover to separate them. Use caution
to avoid scratching the covers or damaging the lower cover snap pins. Remove the defective upper cover.
4. Reverse the above steps to install the new upper cover.
5. Verify proper operation of the rails before returning the stretcher to service.
Rails with Fixed Access Doors
TOOLS REQUIRED:
• #1 Phillips Screwdriver
• Small Regular Screwdriver
• 5/32 in. Allen Wrench
• Medium Strength Thread Locker (or equivalent)
PROCEDURE:
Note
Unless otherwise indicated, refer to Figure 25,page 1-60, for this procedure.
1. Raise the rail to be repaired to the highest position and apply the brakes.
2. Using a #1 Phillips screwdriver, remove the eight screws (A,D) holding the bottom half of the lower plastic cover
(B)to the top half of the lower plastic cover (D).
3. Insert a small regular screwdriver between the two halves of the lower plastic cover to separate them. Use caution
to avoid scratching the covers or damaging the upper cover snap pins. Remove the lower cover.
4. Using a 5/32 in. Allen wrench, remove the two Allen screws (A) holding the spacer (B) and the hinge (C) of the two
access doors to the lower structural member (D) (see Figure 28, page 1-66).
Note
Apply medium strength Thread Locker to the Allen screw threads before replacing the screws.
5. Remove the two access doors by moving the lower end of the door to the left or right and disengaging it from the
upper hinge (H) (see Figure 28, page 1-66). Keep the spacers and the hinges.
