SMF PLAYBACK
The S2000 is able to load Standard MIDI Files (SMF’s) into its memory and play them as MIDI
sequence files. Of course, you cannot edit these sequence files but this function allows you to
use the S32000 as a sequence data filer so that, if you are playing live and require backing
tracks or whatever, you can do so without the inconvenience of taking your sequencer with
you. The SMF function allows:
• Up to 50 MIDI files to be loaded simultaneously (a total of 300kB of data)
• Support of SMF files up to 999 bars per song (to a total of 300kB).
• Compatible with SMF formats 0 and 1.
NOTE: Please refer to the S2000’s MIDI implementation chart to see what functions are
available when working with SMFs on MS-DOS format floppy disks (i.e. note on/off, control
change, etc..).
SMF loading and playback is done in the next group of pages. The first page you encounter
looks like this:
You should press DISK (F1) to have the S2000 ‘look’ at the floppy disk drive and access the
disk’s directory. If the disk inserted in the floppy disk drive is not an MS-DOS formatted disk
with MIDI song files (i.e. it is a sound library disk or operating system disk), you will see the
message:
This will be displayed for a few moments. Assuming the disk does contain MIDI song files, you
will see something like this screen:
This allows you to load an SMF. Use the DATA wheel to select the file you wish to load. Press
F1 (GO) to load the file shown. Up to 50 files may exist in memory at any one time and these
may be selected for playback in the SMF SONG PLAY page (see below).
NOTE: The disk will recognise the MS-DOS disk format and may show files that are not MIDI
song files (this may happen if you accidentally insert a disk you may have for your PC - it will
show you the word processor files!!). Pressing GO to load such files will display the message:
Remove the disk and insert the correct one.
