SAVING OPERATING SYSTEMS
The S2000’s operating system can be saved to floppy disk or hard disk if you wish:
As usual, press GO to start the save process and respond accordingly to the usual
WIPE/SAVE? prompt.
NOTE: It is a good idea to make a backup of the operating system to guard against
accidentally overwriting the original disk.
NOTES ON SAVING THE OPERATING SYSTEM TO DISK
As the S2000 has no operating software in EPROM, the O/S is always loaded from floppy disk.
Make sure to always have this when using the S2000. YOU ARE STRONGLY ADVISED TO
MAKE BACKUPS OF THIS FOR SAFE KEEPING.
When saving an operating system to disk, it is possible to save your own system defaults which
will override those set at the factory. For example, if you have a particular way of recording and
sampling, you can save all the record parameters such as default sampling time, start method,
etc.. You may also save such things as digital input settings and hard disk SCSI ID’s and sector
size. When you load from floppy, these will be loaded.
You may even save your own test program by setting the parameters as you think fit and saving
that as an ordinary program to the operating system disk. This too will be loaded on power up
giving you maybe a more suitable template to work from.
In this way, you can customise the operating system to your own requirements.
You can save the O/S to a floppy disk and always have that in the floppy disk drive when you
power up. However, you may also save the O/S to VOLUME 1 of the hard disk on SCSI ID 5 to
boot up from hard disk if you wish. Saving to a volume other than volume 1 will not work and
saving to a hard disk on a SCSI ID other than 5 will also not work. The O/S must be in volume 1
of the drive on SCSI ID 5 for it to boot up from hard disk.
NAMING DISK VOLUMES
In order to keep track of what’s where, it is a good idea to name a floppy disk/hard disk volume.

Use the outer SELECT wheel to move the cursor around the name field and use the DATA
wheel to enter suitable characters. Once you have entered a suitable name, press F2 (VOL) to
name the volume.
NOTE 1: There is no warning prompt for this. If you make a mistake, simply do it again!
NOTE 2: If you are naming a floppy disk, Syquest cartridge or MO disk, the write protect must
be off in order to name the volume.
