SINGLE MODE
Page 50 S2000 Operator’s Manual - Version 1.30
LAYERING PROGRAMS IN SINGLE MODE
As soon as two more more programs share the same program number, they will play
simultaneously when that program is selected (assuming, of course, they all share the same
MIDI channel). Let’s imagine you want to layer a piano program with a strings program
In SINGLE mode, select the piano sound, press EDIT and press PAGE DOWN once. You will
see this screen:
Press F1 and set the program number in the PNUM field.
To select the strings for renumbering, press PAGE UP once to go the program select screen,
use the DATA wheel to select the strings program, press PAGE DOWN and repeat the process
shown above, setting the program’s number the same as the piano (the MIDI channels should
also be the same for both programs).. Press SINGLE to return to the SINGLE mode and play
your keyboard. You should hear piano and strings playing together.
To add another layer to this (for example, to add an electric piano sound), assuming an electric
piano program is loaded, press EDIT again, select the electric piano, press PAGE DOWN and
set the program number to that of the piano and strings (again, ensure that the MIDI channel is
the same as the other two programs).
You can now select this group of layered programs as one single program. For example, if you
renumbered these three programs to #1, sending a MIDI program change command o f #1 to
the S2000 will select these layered programs.
You may, of course, repeat this process for other programs. For example, you could layer a
synth bass and slap bass together on program #2, trumpets and saxes on program #3 to create
a brass section, etc.. These can be recalled simply by sending the appropriate MIDI program
change commands to the S2000 or by selecting them using the DATA wheel.
NOTE: If you want to layer two identical programs on top of each other (for example, layer a
strings program on top of itself with some detune for a richer sound), you will need to copy the
strings program with a unique name. This is where the MULTI mode scores over SINGLE for
this application as you may use the same program several times in a MULTI).
