PROGRAM EDIT
Page 76 S2000 Operator’s Manual - Version 1.30
NOTE: As mentioned, the three pages described above are mostly retained for compatibility
with older Akai samplers. On older Akai samplers, the way one achieved layering and multi-
timbral sequencing was to give each program the same number. Of course, on the S2000, the
MULTI mode is provided for such purposes but, in the case where you have loaded older
sound data created on earlier Akai samplers, you may edit such data in these pages.
The program number is only really of relevance in the SINGLE mode. Typically, programs are
played individually, each one having a unique program number but, in keeping with earlier Akai
samplers, you may give two or more programs the same number and play them together either
as layered programs (where the programs have the same MIDI channel) or as multi-timbral
setups (where each program has a different MIDI channel). However, if you wish to use MIDI
program change within a MULTI, each program should have its own unique program number
(the easiest way to set this is using the RNUM function in the SINGLE mode which will
renumber programs sequentially 1-?? depending on the number of programs in memory).
The program MIDI channel is also only relevant in the SINGLE mode. In MULTI, each part has its
own MIDI channel and this program parameter is ignored.
Similarly, the EDIT MONITOR function and the program polyphony and priority functions are
only really of any benefit when using the S2000 with layered and/or sound library material
created on earlier models of Akai samplers.
These parameters are included so that sound library created on older Akai samplers may be
loaded into the S2000 without any compatibility problems. If you have used earlier Akai
samplers before, then you may continue to use this method on the S2000 if you wish and so
these functions are retained for your convenience (although the MULTI mode is
recommended for layering and multi-timbral work as it is much quicker and easier to use).
If you are not using sound library created on earlier Akai samplers, the pages described above
can largely be ignored.
