2.7 Manual handling of loads
The Manual Handling of Loads Directive 90/269/EEC from the European Community
lays down the minimum health and safety requirements for the manual handling of
loads where there is a risk particularly of back injury to workers.
The weight of the instrument may exceed 17.5 kg when fully loaded. Please take appropri-
ate actions before lifting the instrument.
Before lifting or carrying a heavy object, the following questions should be asked:
● Can one person lift this load safely, or do two people need to lift the load?
● How far will the load have to be carried?
● Is the path clear of clutter, cords, slippery areas, overhangs, stairs, curbs or uneven
surfaces?
● Will closed doors that need to be opened be encountered?
● Once the load is lifted, will it block the carrier’s view?
● Can the load be broken down into smaller parts?
● Should the carrier wear gloves to get a better grip and to protect hands?
Contact the “Occupational Health and Safety” organization, or equivalent, in your coun-
try for more information.
The GEN7iB weighs approximately 22 kg with seven acquisition cards
plugged in (15.7 kg without acquisition cards).
