11 Restore processes without replication
In this chapter:
• “Restore scenarios” on page 173
• “Restoring single files” on page 174
• “Restore and deduplication” on page 174
• “Reconnecting to HP D2D after host failure” on page 174
NOTE:
If you are using replication, there are other options for restoring data. See
“Recovering a source appliance” on page 94.
Restore scenarios
There are three main restore scenarios.
NOTE:
If you have a backup application that supports One-Button Disaster Recovery and have exported an
OBDR cartridge, you will be able to run OBDR from a tape drive connected directly to the host. This
allows you to reconnect automatically and restores the host system from that cartridge. Please refer
to the tape drive and backup application documentation for more information. The tape drive must
also support OBDR.
Basic file restore
This is carried out from the HP D2D Backup System. Use the backup application to restore files from
the HP D2D to the host, as required.
Restore after host failure
This is carried out from the HP D2D Backup System.
1. Rebuild the host and reconnect to the HP D2D.
2. Use the backup application to restore files from the HP D2D to the host.
Restore after site failure
This requires a physical tape device attached directly to the HP D2D.
1. Replace the HP D2D.
2. Rebuild the host and reconnect to the HP D2D.
