Lynx II DSA User's Manual – 7096089 119
This dialog provides access to settings specific to synchronizing multiple MCAs when the
acquisition mode is MSS, LIST, TLIST, or using Auxiliary and/or SCA Counters The rear
panel’s SYNC connector is used for external synchronization. The SYNC connector
accepts an input when the Lynx II is configured as a slave or provides an output when the
Lynx II is configured as a master.
Status
Sets external synchronization to Disabled, Enabled, or Independent. Disabled disables the
external synchronization logic. Signals present on the external SYNC connector will be
ignored by all acquisition units. Enabled enables the synchronization logic and the SYNC
connector becomes an input or output depending on the selected Mode. Independent
enables external synchronization and allows independent control for SCA, Auxiliary
counters, MSS, and List data collection.
Modes
When external synchronization is enabled, the Lynx II’s SYNC connector becomes an
output when Master A or Master B is selected, and an input when Slave is selected.
• Master A mode indicates that the external synchronization output will be driven by
the device. The pulse period is determined by the value of the Pulse field.
• Master B mode indicates that the device will drive external synchronization output.
The pulse period is fixed at 1 µS.
• Slave operation - When the device has been set for Slave, an externally generated
sync pulse is expected at the rear panel’s SYNC MCX connector.
Polarity
Defines the polarity of the synchronization signal at the rear panel’s SYNC connector.
Pulse (mS)
Defines the pulse duration of the Master A signal, in milliseconds, that the master Lynx II
will output to other devices in the system.
Timeout (mS)
When a Lynx II is configured as a Slave, the Timeout setting specifies the timeout period
within which an external sync pulse must be received at the rear panel’s SYNC input if the
external sync has been enabled. If the pulse is not received, the Lynx II will assert a
timeout fault.
MSS Clock Sources
Defines the clock source to be used when external synchronization is Enabled. Options are
Internal or External, as follows:
• Internal means that the clock source is the internal 1 µS clock.
• External means that the clock source is defined by the External Sync input at the
rear panel’s SYNC connector.
