Chapter 4 System Setup
34 Lynx II DSA User's Manual - 7096089
MCA
This is the type of MCA device being used for this particular entry in the table.
Input
This is the name that will be used to refer to this specific hardware entry in the table. The
MID Editor automatically assigns these names sequentially as DET nn, starting with
nn=01. You can easily edit this assignment to an input name of your choice via the
Settings | Input… menu selection. A unique name is required for each MCA
configuration stored in the MID file.
Size
This shows the number of data channels assigned to this input. By default, the maximum
number of channels (32768) is assigned; this value can be reduced later at run-time within
the Acquisition and Analysis application.
HV
This column describes the High Voltage Power Supply associated with the Lynx II DSP.
Gain
This column describes the DSP Gain device associated with the Lynx II DSP.
Other Entries
The other entries, ADC, MXR, and Amp., are not configurable parameters for the Lynx II
DSP, however, related parameters such as front-end gains can be adjusted later at run-time
within the Acquisition and Analysis application.
Device Setup
The Devices menu sets the parameters for the Lynx II's MCA and associated devices.
Some Devices options are disabled (grayed out) because they do not have any adjustable
parameters. Of the enabled Devices, only the MCA and the Sample Changer have user-
selectable parameters. The others default to their only parameter: Internal.
Note: At this point in the setup process the Lynx II is required to be connected to the
network or directly to the host computer. Note the device's IP address or UPnP
name as it will be required to complete the setup. Refer to Communications Setup
starting on page 153, as it describes the initial setup and basic operation of the
communication interfaces.
MCA
From the Device menu, select the MCA command to display a dialog box. Enter either
the IP address or its exact UPnP Name. See Discovering the Lynx II DSA on page 35 for
additional information.
Next, select the MCA's Number depending on your acquisition requirements, where
1 = PHA acquisition, and 2 = MCS acquisition.
Click on OK to accept the changes.
