Acquisition Setup
Lynx II DSA User's Manual 7096089 59
Refer to your Genie 2000 documentation for additional information on these Genie 2000
settings, if required.
Counting Modes
Select the radio button for the counting mode desired.
LFC+, Loss Free counting, or PHA+ mode of Pulse Height Analysis. PHA+ is the
initial default for the Acquire Setup screen.
MCS+ mode will be available only as the only selection for an MCS datasource.
Time Preset
Defines a time-preset condition to terminate PHA acquisition. For PHA+ and LFC+
counting modes, select either Live Time or Real Time selections, then enter and select the
acquire time in seconds, minutes, or hours to establish the time preset that terminates
acquisition. Entering zero as the time implies infinity, or “count forever”.
MCS Presets
Defines a sweep-preset condition to terminate the MCS acquisition. For MCS+ counting
mode, enter the Preset Sweep Counts. Entering zero as the Preset Sweep count implies
infinity, or “sweep forever”.
External Controls
Enabling the External Control logic in the Acquire Setup dialog allows a signal present at
the rear panel PHA SS (for PHA) or MCS SS (for MCS) connector to control the storage
of data once the acquisition has been ‘armed’ with a Start acquire command. See “Arming
the acquisition” below.
Arming the acquisition
The Start acquire command (i.e. pressing the Start button or receiving a Start Acquisition
from a batch sequence) arms the acquisition electronics in the Lynx II, and if the External
Control is disabled (None is selected), then data storage begins immediately. When the
External Control is set to other than None, then the storage of data is conditioned by the
setting of the External Start/Stop Control, as described in the next section.
External Start/Stop
Both PHA and MCS datasources support external start/stop control through their
respective rear-panel connectors.
The External Start/Stop control may be set to None, Start, Stop, Start & Stop, or Suspend
& Resume. Within the context of external control, some documents refer to the Start, Stop,
and Start & Stop selection as the Pulse mode, whereas the Suspend & Resume selection as
the Lynx II mode or Level mode.
Please refer to the External Controls on page 96 for detailed explanations of each setting.
