cobas b 123 POC system
Instrument tab - START-UP phase
Instrument tab Location on the user interface where
you can manually start calibrations and disinfection
tasks, and view the instrument, consumable and
parameter status.
IN-USE time Time from the beginning of the RUN-IN
phase until the end of the stable phase
ISE sensors Part of the cobas b 123 Sensor Cartridge.
They measure Na
+
, K
+
, Ca
2+
and Cl
-
parameters.
Levey-Jennings graph Illustrates QC statistics to find
errors in how the system performs measurements.
Measuring chamber module Controls the contact of
the Sensor Cartridge with the Fluid Pack and controls
the temperature of the Sensor Cartridge.
Micro mode Sample mode for capillary measurements
that is automatically used when the instrument detects
sample volumes less than 123 L.
Multirules Decision criteria used for determining
whether a parameter falls inside or outside of the
specified range for a quality control run. It is based on
Westgard rules.
NIST standards Defines precise sera with certified
expected values.
Overview tab Main tab of the user interface. You can
start measurements, and view results, operating
instructions, alarms, warnings, and other general
information on this screen.
Oximeter calibration Oximeter module-specific
calibrations performed during 2P and system
calibrations on cobas b 123 <2> POC system and
cobas b 123 <4> POC system variants. Consists of the
wavelength calibration of the polychromator, the
calibration of the intergration time and layer thickness
calibration of the cuvette.
Oximeter module Consists of the hemolyzer and the
COOX measuring chamber. It is an optical sensor
module for determining total hemoglobin (tHb),
hemoglobin derivatives, and bilirubin (Bili).
Oximeter parameters Parameters that are measured
with the oximeter module. These parameters are tHb,
COHb, MetHb, O
2
Hb, HHb, SO
2
, and bilirubin.
Patient trend map Software feature in the system that
is designed to graphically show trends in patient results
over time.
Peristaltic pump Responsible for transporting sample
and operating fluids in the system. 1 or 2 peristaltic
pumps are found on the system, depending on its
configuration. The tubing of the peristaltic pumps are
part of the Fluid Pack.
Plasma Liquid part of blood that contains water, salts,
enzymes, antibodies and other proteins. Plasma samples
are collected by centrifuging heparinized whole blood.
Polychromator Light is refracted and focused onto the
surface of a photosensitive receiver (CCD).
Printer A low-noise thermal printer, which is part of
the user interface module.
Proficiency test Monitors the continuing
performance of a laboratory to provide accurate results
in an interlaboratory comparison scheme. The
organizers send homogeneous materials to each of the
participating laboratories, who analyze the material and
report their results to the organizers. The organizers
assess the results and notify the participating laboratories
of the results.
Quality control, QC A process used to verify that an
instrument’s output is not affected by issues with the
instrument. This is done by measuring a certified sample
with the instrument, and testing the results against the
sample’s specifications.
Recalibration An automatic calibration performed
after each measurement with standby solution.
RiliBÄK Guidelines of the German Federal Medical
Council for quality assurance of test results in medical
laboratories. They determine the minimum quality
requirements for medical laboratory tests.
RUN-IN phase It begins after the START-UP phase
and continues for a specific time, which is defined on the
Sensor Cartridge. During the RUN-IN phase, you can
perform measurements without any impact to their
accuracy or precisions, but sample measurement times
are longer.
Sample sensor contacts The electrical interface
between the Fluid Pack and the measuring chamber
module.
Sensor parameters Parameters that are measured
using the Sensor Cartridge. These parameters are pH,
PCO
2
, PO
2
, Hct, Na
+
, K
+
, Ca
2+
, Cl
-
, Glu and Lac.
S
rate
The spontaneous breathing rate when a patient is
on a ventilator.
Stable phase It begins at the end of the RUN-IN phase
and ends when the in-use time of the Sensor Cartridge
expires.
START-UP phase The first phase of the
Sensor Cartridge after it is installed on the system.
During the START-UP phase, the system performs
actions on the Sensor Cartridge to prepare it for its first
measurement.
