5. Inspect the filter: chips, scratches, and/or
cracks in the light path scatter light, reduc-
ing detector sensitivity. Replace filters as
necessary.
Inspect the PMT window for damage; if
necessary, replace the PMT. See “Photomul-
tiplier tube” on page 1-201.
