Chapter 5 Measurement Functions
5-80
ISS Method: Off Calculation Method
This performs the following calculation when the IN waveform (Pin(λ))
and OUT waveform (Pout(λ)) are gathered, to calculate the gain and noise
figure.
(1) For the IN waveform
The peak is detected in accordance with the peak detection setting
(S.Level, Search Threshold), and the peak wavelengths (W
i..n
) and
peak levels (Pin
i..n
) are obtained.
(2) For the OUT waveform
(a) The peak levels (Pout
i..n
) are obtained at the peak wavelengths
(W
i..n
) obtained in (1).
(b) Fitting is applied in accordance with the fitting conditions
(Fitting Span, Masked Span, Fitting Curve or Point) for the
OUT waveform, and the ASE values (Pase
i..n
) are obtained.
Gain (G
i
) and ASE (Pase
i
) are obtained as follows, and the noise figure is
calculated with the NF formula.

Actual Resolution (Actual Resolution (nm)) calculation method
When the Actual Resolution is Measured
1. Peak levels (Pp
i
(i=1..N)) are obtained for each signal.
2. Half the range with respect to the neighboring channel is integrated
centered on the peak wavelength for each signal. If there is only one
signal, the Auto(Res) value (see Table 5.8.3-2) is used. These
integration values are used as Sp
i
(i=1..N).
The integration value is obtained with the following formula.
