3.5.1.8 Line Type
Each line button represents a SIP user id or account in the call server. A line must have a Line
Type assignment. The line types available are private, shared, also known as MADN (Multiple
Appearance Directory Number) and DSS/BLF (Direct Station Selection/Busy Lamp Field).
A private line generally appears on line buttons of one phone but may appear at multiple phones
as a Multiple Line Appearance (MLA). While incoming calls on a private line ring at all phones
with an appearance, an active or held private line call is accessible only to the associated phone.
In addition, the status of an active or held private line call displays only at the associated phone.
Only the active user may transfer or conference calls on a private line.
A MADN line appears at line buttons of one or more phones. All phones with an appearance
can access incoming and held calls on the MADN line and receive status information for the call.
Note for proper operation, assign the line as a MADN in the call server as well as shared in the
IP Phone.
A DSS/BLF line button provides added operational functionality commonly required by an
Attendant or Secretarial answering position. These include:
DSS - one-touch calling and transfers to the extensions
BLF (Presence) - visual status indication of the extension, when the associated extension
is busy the LED illuminates red.
For proper DSS/BLF operation, the DSS Extension must be assigned, section 3.5.1.10
, and
Presence must be configured in the Call server and enabled in the Web Manager, section 4.2
or
Config file, Appendix D
.
Each line button employs LEDs to indicate status of the line as shown below.
