Reassembling

During
reassembly
grease
the
pivots
of the
weights and
springs
and the spindle
bearing
area
with
Rocol
MP
(Molypad).
Grease
the
outside
of
the
contact
breaker
hollow
pivot
post
and
lightly
smear
the spindle
cam,
using Retinax
‘A’
grease.
Apply
one or
two
drops of clean
engine
oil
to
the
oiling pad.
Reverse
the
procedure
in
6
to
22,
noting:
a.
Set
the■contact
points
gap
to
0.014
to
0.016
in.
(0.36
to
0.40
mm).
b.
If
a new
drive spindle
is
■tted,
tap
the
drive
end
of the
distributor dog
to
■atten
the
pips
on
the
thrust washer
and
ensure
the
correct amount
of
end-■oat.
The
new
spindle
should be drilled
through
the
hole
in
the
drive dog.
Use
a
1%
in.
(4.76
mm.)
drill.
During
drilling,
push the spindle
from the
cam
end,
pressing
the
drive dog
and
washer
against
the body
shank.

Ensure the base plate
is pressed
against the

the
body of
the distributor
so
that the
chamfered
edge
engages
the
undercut.

Measure
across
the
centre
of
the
distributor
at
a
right angle
to
the
slot
in
the base
plate.
e.
Tighten
the
securing
screw
and
re-measure
the
distance
across
the body.
Unless
the
measurement
has
increased by
at
least
0.006
in.
(0.152
mm.) the
contact
breaker
base
plate
must
be
renewed.
Re■tting
31. Reverse
the
procedure
in
4
to
7
but
do
not
tighten
the
■ange
retaining
screws.
32.
With the
crankshaft
and distributor
rotor
set
as
in
instruction
3,
rotate
the
distributor
within
the limits
of
the slotted
holes
in
the ■ange
until
the
contact
breaker
points
are
just opening.
33.
Tighten
the ■ange
retaining
screws
to
8
to
10
lbf.
ft.
(1.1
to
1.4 kgf. m.).
34. Re■t
the
distributor
cap.
35.
Re-connect
the battery.
36.
Check
the
ignition
timing.
