THERMOSTAT

Removing
l.

Remove the coolant filler plug
and
‘O’
ring
seal.
Remove the coolant drain plug from
the cylinder
block,
partly
drain,
and
refit
the
drain plug.
Remove the
nuts,
spring
and plain
washers and release
the
water
outlet
pipe.
Remove
the joint
washer.
Remove the thermostat
from
the cylinder head.

Testing
6.
If
the thermostat
is
stuck
in
the
open
position
it is
faulty
and
must
be
renewed.
Place
the thermostat
in
a
container
of
water
and
heat
the
water,
noting
the
water temperature
at
which
the
thermostat
opens.
The
nominal
temperature
in
deg. C
at
which
the thermostat
opens
is
stamped
on
the base
of
the thermostat
bulb. If
it
does
not
open
at
approximately the
right
temperature,
renew
the
thermostat.
Refitting
8.
Reverse
the procedure
in
1
to
5,
noting:
a.
Use
a
new
joint washer.
b.
Torque
tighten the
water
outlet
elbow
nuts
to
the figure
given in
‘GENERAL
DATA’.
