Check engine oil level more frequently during engine
break-in period. As a general rule, makeup oil should
not need to be added during 100-hour break-in period.
However, if makeup oil is required in the first 100-hour
break-in, an additional 100-hour break-in period is
required. Use a new change of John Deere ENGINE
BREAK-IN OIL and a new John Deere oil filter.
After 100 hours maximum, drain break-in oil and
change oil filter. Fill crankcase with John Deere
TORQ-GARD SUPREME

OR PLUS-50

or other
heavy-duty diesel engine oil within the same service
classification as recommended in this manual. See
DIESEL ENGINE OIL in Group 002, Fuels, Lubricants,
and Coolant.
NOTE: Some increase in oil consumption may be
expected when low viscosity oils are used.
Check oil levels more frequently.
If air temperature is below -10

F), use
an engine block heater.

Crankcase Vent Tube
A—Crankcase Vent Tube
1. Inspect crankcase ventilation system for restrictions.
Lack of ventilation causes sludge to form in crankcase.
This can lead to clogging of oil passages, filters, and
screens, resulting in serious engine damage.
2. Clean crankcase vent tube (A) with solvent and
compressed air if restricted. Install and tighten hose
clamps securely.
