C.8.1
● The RJ-11 cable maximum length is 3 meters.
● RS-485 maximum length is 1 200 meters (4 000 feet).
● Use 24 AWG (minimum).
● Use good quality communication grade (shielded twisted pairs) cable that is
recommended for RS-485 for port 2 (Belden 9842).
● Run the communication cable separately from power and control cables (do not tie wrap
your RS-232 or RS-485 cable to the power cable or have them in the same conduit).
● Use shielded cable and connect to ground at one end only.
● Follow proper grounding guidelines for all devices on the bus.

Improper wiring and incorrect choice of cables are two of the most common causes of
communication problems.
