Inserting and removing the DI probe 7-5
Direct insertion probe sample cups:
To load sample into the DI probe:
1. Push the sample cup firmly into the probe tip to ensure good thermal
contact with the heater element.
The sample cups can be loaded before or after inserting them into the
probe.
2. Load the solid samples into the cups using a thin piece of wire or a
drawn-out length of glass rod.
3. Load samples in solution using a syringe.
Recommendation: Whenever possible, make the sample into a solution.
4. Ensure that the sample is deposited at the bottom of the cup and not
around its neck, taking care not to leave any air pockets.
Tip: If several samples are to be run sequentially, load all the cups and
stand them in the holder, provided with the DI probe.
Caution: Ensure that the sample cup is retained firmly on the
probe tip by the tungsten strip. Use two pieces of tungsten strip if
necessary.
