9-20 FI/FD Operation
GC-FI column position:
Tuning in FI mode
When using the instrument in FI mode, sample is ionized by passing close to
the very high field generated around the emitter by the voltage on the
extraction rods. Sample can be introduced into the source by either the
reference reservoir, the GC column or direct insertion probe (solids probe).
If you introduce the sample using the direct insertion probe, then you must
use the FI/FD inner source direct insertion probe only flange.
