A-2 Starting-up and Shutting-down the Instrument
Starting-up the instrument
To start-up the instrument:
1. Ensure the power switch is switched on at the main power supply.
2. Ensure the compressed air is set to 100 psi.

3. Ensure the CI gas is set to 10 psi.
4. Switch on the instrument power on/off switch at the rear of the
instrument.
5. Switch on the MassLynx PC.
6. Switch-on the embedded PC (EPC).

7. Allow 3 minutes for the embedded PC to initialize.
8. Start the MassLynx software.
9. In the MassLynx window, click .

10. Switch on the backing pump.
See also: Rotary pump maintenance on page 10-5.
11. In the Tune window, click Vacuum > Pump Instrument.
Result: You are prompted to auto-condition the MCP detector. If you
select Yes, steps 13 to 15 are completed automatically.
Tip: Waters recommends that you condition the detector for 10 hours
when the analyzer has been vented to air. If the analyzer has been
vented to dry gas and not exposed to air, conditioning can be reduced to
60 minutes.

12. Click the Engineer tab.
13. Ensure that the instrument has pumped sufficiently so that the Vacuum
LED on the front panel is green.
